NPW History

NPW was formed in 2012 from School Traded Services – that were first established in the early 1990s and delivered to schools through Newham Council. Our services continue to be delivered by many of the same dedicated staff today.

We take pride in the high quality professional support we provide and continue to develop our services along the same principles that have supported our success for the last 20 years.

A brief summary of our recent history:

2011

A Co-operative College report commissioned by headteachers showed a very clear appetite for transforming School Traded Services into a new autonomous mutual owned by schools.

At the same time, Newham Council decided to deliver services through outsourced business units. The School Traded Services unit, with its strong grounding in customer support, led the way in these developments.

Consultation with schools, staff and governors followed, before deciding on the favoured model for delivery of School Traded Services: an independent, not-for-profit mutual run in partnership with Newham Schools.

2012/2013

The organisation – NPW (Newham Partnership Working Ltd) – was formed, with a board of directors representing Newham's Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools and the 71 employees transferring from the local authority.

NPW signed a 3-year contract for services with 86 schools in Newham. The contract fixed service prices and Company members agreed that profits could be spent on delivering additional services to the schools.

By 2013 our reputation for high quality services led to a growth in business and we started supporting schools outside of Newham and has increased in subsequent years.

2014

  • Supported the recruitment of approximately 315 new teachers into Newham and carried out 1,553 DBS checks.
  • Delivered governor training events attended by over 1,700 governors.
  • Worked to ensure that catering contracts provided 7 million healthy, nutritious meals.
  • Successfully managed 7,803 ICT Central Helpdesk incidents; our School Based Technicians successfully managed a further 10,701 incidents.

2015/2016

Working in partnership with experts in communications, first aid, educational visits and with school business managers, we bolstered our core service offer, culminating in being shortlisted for Education Partnership of the Year at the EducationInvestor Awards 2016.

NPW has further extended its portfolio working with multi-academy chains, providing a range of support from initial planning through to post-conversion development.

2017 and beyond

NPW provides services to myriad different customers in the educational sphere, including: 95 local schools; 22 schools outside of Newham; and 24 other education-related customers.
